New Monthy Stress Reduction Wellness Group being offered! Only $40 per session.

What is this group about?

This supportive educational wellness group empowers women struggling with infertility with the coping skills necessary to regain control of their bodies, their emotions, and their lives by reducing the damaging effects of stress, depression and anxiety.

The group focuses on mastering the stress reduction techniques of deep relaxation, mindfulness, relationship skills training and cognitive behavioral restructuring.  Practicing these skills has been scientifically proven to reduce the psychological distress associated with infertility and enhance the effectiveness of fertility treatment.

Why is this group so important?

First and foremost, you deserve to feel better!  There is no way to eliminate all of the pain associated with infertility, but we do know that there are certain things you can do to protect yourself from secondary suffering that often hurts worse than the primary pain of diagnosis and treatment.  Also, we know that recent research indicates that psychological distress may indeed influence the outcome of fertility treatments, and that reduction in stress and depression are associated with significantly increased pregnancy rates.

Here are the details:

February Topic: Overcoming Negative Self-Talk

Negative Self-Talk can be the most powerful and debilitating cause of stress, depression and anxiety.  Many times we are totally unaware of the harmful thoughts that are on repeat in our minds and how these irrational and distorted beliefs negatively affect our mood.  The way in which we interpret and perceive events in our lives is what affects us the most, more so the actual events themselves.

For example, the diagnosis of female infertility is in itself very sad and painful.  This is primary suffering.  But the way you interpret and wrap meaning around that diagnosis is what usually causes the deepest type of pain.  This interpretation is called secondary suffering and may sound like “I am a failure as a woman and have no worth if I cant have kids.”  Imagine if instead you believed the more true statement of “My body has failed me.  This is devastating but it has nothing to do with my value as a woman.”  Can you see how each thought would produce very different feelings?
