This educational wellness group empowers women struggling with infertility with the coping skills necessary to regain control of their bodies, their emotions, and their lives by reducing the damaging effects of stress, depression and anxiety.
The group focuses on mastering the stress reduction techniques of deep relaxation, mindfulness, relationship skills training and cognitive behavioral restructuring. Practicing these skills has been scientifically proven to reduce the psychological distress associated with infertility and enhance the effectiveness of fertility treatment.
Why is this group so important?
First and foremost, you deserve to feel better! There is no way to eliminate all of the pain associated with infertility, but we do know that there are certain things you can do to protect yourself from secondary suffering that often hurts worse than the primary pain of diagnosis and treatment. Also, we know that Recent research indicates that psychological distress may indeed influence the outcome of fertility treatments, and that reduction in stress and depression are associated with significantly increased pregnancy rates.
- A recent study showed that women who were the most anxious prior to their IVF cycle were 93% less likely to conceive than the least distressed women.
- Another study found that women who were not depressed before starting fertility treatment had conception rates twice as high as women who were depressed before treatment.
- In a study with women undergoing donor sperm insemination, those with higher levels of anxiety prior to undergoing inseminations took significantly longer to conceive and were also significantly more likely to miscarry that those with lower levels of anxiety.
- Several other studies have found that patients who learn mind/body stress reduction techniques have significant reductions in psychological distress and are significantly more likely to conceive than patients who receive no training.
